King Street Pied-à-Terre

about the project

Tucked behind a historic facade on King Street, this renovation presented SvMA with a unique opportunity to completely reimagine a pied-a-terre for a busy couple.  The resulting design focuses on a generous common area, using subtle gestures to differentiate the family room from the large kitchen.  Discrete bedroom suites for the owner and guests are carefully tucked away, efficiently maximizing space in the tight floor plan.

Each room is conceived as a jewel box; the architecture provides the framework and serves as a backdrop for the richly layered interiors. Within the primary bathroom layout, transparent and translucent partitions were used to create a sense of privacy while allowing natural light deep into the narrow, linear space.  SvMA collaborated closely with the interior designer throughout the project, including on the design of a custom bed for the primary bedroom.
